The tale of Kinnara

In Southeast Asian folklore, Kinnari is a faithful lover and celestial musician who lives in the mystical Himapan Forest. Her physical appearance takes the form of half beautiful woman and half fantastic bird. She is dressed in an elaborate traditional Thai costume that symbolizes her ability to travel between heaven and earth.

In Thailand, Kinnari are known for their beauty and wisdom which are often depicted in Buddhist literature and classical dances. One of the famous Kinnari figures in Thailand is called "Manorah" which inspired a classical dance known as "Manorah Buchayah" which dancers still perform today. The male equivalent is Kinnara.
